The next chapter
Hey folks, I’m sending this extra email to share some exciting news about the future of Cord Cutter Weekly.
Back in 2018, I started a separate tech advice newsletter called Advisorator, funded entirely by paid memberships from readers like you. Now, I’m expanding the membership with more resources for streaming and cord cutting:
- An ad-free, reader-friendly version of my weekly column, which I link to at the top of each Cord Cutter Weekly newsletter.
- A searchable archive of all my past cord cutting columns, going back to 2014.
- A private forum to discuss streaming, cord cutting, and technology in general. This is now the best way to get your questions answered by me (and possibly others).
If you haven’t tried Advisorator before, sign up this week and I’ll take half off your first year. For $25—a round of beers in a medium-sized city—you’ll get all the above benefits, plus my full Tuesday tech advice newsletter and all the resources on my Advisorator site. I’ll help you get smarter about technology and save you money along the way.
Got questions? Allow me to anticipate some of them:
Are you charging for Cord Cutter Weekly now?
No. The newsletter is free and always will be.
Are you putting ads in Cord Cutter Weekly now?
No. Can’t say it’ll never happen, but ads aren’t something I enjoy spending time and energy on.
So what’s changing in Cord Cutter Weekly, exactly?
For non-members, not much. As before, the “Read the full column →” link at the top of each newsletter will send you to PCWorld’s version, ads and all.
But if you subscribe to Advisorator, you’ll get a separate link to the same column on my own site, with no ads, invasive trackers, or other distractions. You’ll also get access to the archives, forums, and all the other benefits of an Advisorator membership.
I’m wary of subscriptions.
Me too! But I’ve been running Advisorator for seven years now and pride myself on treating subscribers the way I’d like to be treated. You can read my transparent billing, cancellation, and refund policy here.
Why are you doing this?
I still have a great relationship with the folks at PCWorld and will continue syndicating my streaming column there, so it’ll remain free to read for non-members. But from now on, I’ll be publishing the column on my own site first, in a reader-friendly format for those who support my work.
For me, this a big step toward making Cord Cutter Weekly a fully independent, reader-supported venture, just like Advisorator always has been. I want to spend more time and energy building up my own publications, and my hope is that you’ll help make that possible. I think you’ll love what you get in return.
Still have more questions? Feel free to email me. Thanks so much for hearing me out.
Until Friday,
Jared
